Hey Ho! (England)

This song has a hip-hop style accompaniment. The opening to the song uses words from Shakespeare's 'As You Like It'. It should be sung with enthusiasm, making the words as clear as possible.

Halfway through the song there is a contrasting gentler section, based on the closing song from Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night'.  The descant Hey Ho! sections are not as easy as they first appear and will need real practice to sound just right.

Bebe Yo (Senegal)

Bébé Yo is a simple love song appropriate for children of all ages. The lyrics can be interpreted in many ways, one of which is to perform it as a lullaby to a baby. You could also perform two versions; one upbeat as a pop love song and one more gently as a lullaby.

La Petaquita

The internationally renowned Chilean singer and songwriter Violeta Parra made this traditional song famous.

The song explores the idea of a singer pouring all of her feelings into a small flask (la petaquita in Spanish) only to find her troubles have disappeared when she peers inside the flask.

Starlight

A beautiful end to the medley. This song by Lin Marsh has lyrics that show how voices can reach across oceans and continents and share in the power and magic of singing together.

The melody needs lyrical, gentle singing and wide open vowel sounds on the long notes. Breathe through those long phrases to shape them musically but above all, think of the meaning of the words and sing with real hope.
